Using Apple Pay when Allow Access When Locked, Double-Click Home Button is disabled.

Iphone 7 Plus, Software version 15.8.2. I have always been concerned that when paying using Apple Pay on my phone, it takes a double click of the Home Button to open Apple Pay. It strikes me that if my phone is stolen, anyone could use it to pay for things without having to Unlock the phone. I.e. with no security.

I have just seen under Settings | Wallet & Apple Pay | Allow Access When Locked | Double-click Home Button

I have turned this off. Now, how do I pay using Apple Pay? Up until now, I double-clicked the Home Button and Apple Pay appeared - I held my phone to the terminal and it paid. Now, I can't get Apple Pay to appear - when the phone is unlocked or locked. Do I have to allow Apple Pay to work when the phone is unlocked, for it to work?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 15

Thank you for your reply. I think the double click on the side button only works on later phones. I have discovered that, with the phone unlocked, just holding it over the payment device causes Apple Pay to appear - and I can confirm the payment with Touch ID. I didn't realise it worked like that. I thought you had to double click the Home button to get Apple Pay to appear and the only way it would appear, when the phone was unlocked, was to lock it and then double click the Home button. I have to say, the instructions when I installed Apple Pay - on how to use it to actually pay - were as clear as mud.

For anyone yo use ApplePay on your phone, they will need verification using FaceID/Touch ID or Passcode. This would not be possible if someone stole your phone. If they knew your Passcode, then could open your phone and use ApplePay anyway.

To use ApplePay with those setting mentioned turned off, you would need to open the Wallet app, choose your card, and Double Click the side button. The option you turned off for Double Clicking the side button is only for when the screen is locked, you will still need to use it in the Wallet app.
