How to remove photos from my iPhone and not from the iCloud

i want to remove most of the photos from my iphone to free up storage but dont want to erase them from the cloud. how do i do this please?

The purpose of iCloud Photos is to sync the photos on your device to those in iCloud, so if you delete them from your device, they will also be deled from iCloud. Make sure you are using Optimized Storage for iCloud Photos. This will automatically save low quality photos on your device to save space.


If you have another device that is using iCloud Photos, you can quit syncing the photos on your iPhone and will then be able to delete them without affecting the photos in iCloud. You must have another device using iCloud Photos, because if none of your devices are using iCloud Photos, then they will be removed after 30 days.
