How do I adjust scrolling behavior in pages with macOS Sonoma?

On previous i0S Macs, I could leisurely scroll from one page to another in Pages. Now, when I get near the bottom of the page, it jumps to the next page. Because I need a lot of material open there is not room to have the article completely vertically open. I need to read to a point and gradually scroll to see the next paragraph, but now it jumps up (or left or right) and I can't read the whole page.

Apple Macs run macOS and iPhones/iPads use iOS and iPadOS respectively. These are device-specific with very different operating systems and Pages implementations.

I am using Pages v14.1 on macOS Sonoma with a multi-page document open and using an Apple Magic Mouse II, I can slowly scroll from the end of one page to the beginning of the next without any abrupt transition. Using the Page Up/Down keys on my extended Apple Magic Keyboard does cause an abrupt transition between document pages.

Though I rarely use it, I have scroll bars shown on the open Pages document and even if I click and drag on the scrollbar, the transition between pages remains gradual.

Pages itself has no settings to control pagination scrolling behavior. If you are using macOS Sonoma 14.5, the System Settings > Appearance panel has a section on scroll behavior but I don't think that will resolve what you describe. On macOS Monterey (12.*) and earlier releases of macOS, the System Preferences > General panel has scroll settings — again, which may have limited use for your Pages issue.

Since Pages cannot open PDFs to scroll, PDF Readers of which Apple's Preview or Adobe's Acrobat Reader won't behave like word processors and will likely have an abrupt transition from one page to the next.

A publisher will likely send you a document in a word processing format (very likely Word .docx) while they expect you to exchange edits with them.

Thank you! I don't have a mouse, but I will try dragging on the scroll bar. However, the particular document I was using just now is a pdf and doesn't have a scroll bar. Actually now I have checked other documents and it is only the pdf's that are jumping to the next page. Is there any way to get around that? In one case I asked the person who had the pdf to send it to me in .docx or .pages, but I wonder in what form the publisher will send me the book I am to translate into Spanish--it will be difficult if I have to keep it fully open all the time which also leaves it in rather small print.
