Apple Care Question

Hello everyone. I got an iPhone 15 Pro a few days ago and noticed that Apple now rates the batteries for 1000 cycles above 80% capacity due to a change in testing. However, won’t my battery still have the same amount of damage and thus lowered performance at 500 cycles since it didn’t physically change?

I would just use the iphone as you see fit, and not fixate on the battery

≤ 80% maximum capacity is when Apple suggests the battery is eligible for replacement

I'm not sure it matters whether it is degraded to the point of needing replacement (battery health at 80%) in 500 cycles or 1000 cycles. The standard AppleCare plan only offers a warranty replacement of an iPhone battery if it's health dips to 80% in the first 12 months. After that, if you paid for an AppleCare+ plan, the battery would be covered beyond the first 12 months if the AppleCare+ plan is still valid.

Right, which is why I was wondering if apple care+ is worth it. I doubt I’ll degrade my battery before my apple care + plan ends. So then it would be more logical to just pay the $99 after 3 or so years and replace the battery rather than pay $199 for apple care+ and never use it.

I've never purchased AppleCare+ for the battery. That's truly the least of my worries. AppleCare+ covers the more important things, like actually breaking your phone (screen or back) or accidentally smashing it AND if you pay for AppleCare+ Theft & Loss, if you lose your phone or its stolen, you're covered there as well.
