Why won't Apple replace my phone when my Battery Health is 81%?

Raised a case with Apple Care to have my battery serviced as Battery Health is 81% on my iphone 14pro Max. in store they reviewed / performed diagnostics on my phone and advise the Battery was still OK and would not replace the battery as the Battery Health was over 80%.

I do not understand this as I paid for the extra cover which permits replacement of my phone under various circumstances, however Battery health is not one of them?

If my battery in my phone was actually working properly then it would still be nearer the 100% health, not 20% deficiency. In the last week my Battery Health has dropped to 80% from 81%.

for an iphone which is 16 months old I find this very concerning and apple support deficient in their customer support.

iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 17

This is a user to user forum. We are all users here.....just like you.

You are asking a "why" question about decisions that have been made by Apple that can only be explained by Apple.

For what it's worth, it is normal to expect a decline.....on average....of about 1% a month in battery performance. That's an average. Some months it might not decline at all, then drop 2% the next month. This is normal.

My phone is about 10 months old and the Battery Health is at 90%. I expect to replace the battery in another 10 months or so. I would be thrilled if I could get 2 years or 24 months out of the battery.....but I know I won't.

Thank you for the information, however this just reiterates the query raised. What I would like to understand is why Apple believe that 20% battery degradation is acceptable for an iPhone of less than 18 months in use? appreciate that there may be a few % delta, however 20% in such a short space of time seems excessive and demonstrates that apple are providing inferior batteries?! If battery Health was good, in my view it should still be very close to 100%.........
