I am a Windows guy, NOT a MAC guy, trying to recover/reset password for a MacBook Air

My brother has a MacBook Air for which he has forgotten the password. He uses it very little. Since I'm much more tech savvy than he is, he asked me if I could figure out how to recover or reset the password, so he can start using the laptop again.

I was an IT guy for many years - retired now - but always worked on Windows / Intel gear, so I'm kind of a fish out of water with this laptop. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how I can figure out how to recover this laptop. There is no important personal data on the laptop, so if I have to wipe it clean and start over, that is acceptable.

Any pointers on how to get started are appreciated.
