Provided they are on the same network, set up File Sharing on the Mac whose files you want to share.

Make sure that SMB is enabled on both Macs. (File Sharing > Options > Share files & folders using SMB).

If AFP is available on the 2010 MBP, disable it.


Then, using the FInder, connect (Connect As) to the Mac whose files are being shared. You will need to use a user name & password that exists on the sharing Mac.
