On iPadOS, “Save to Files” option no longer appearing in the share sheet

I am experiencing this issue on an iPad Pro 2018 running iPadOS 17.5.1. A few days ago the share sheet started to get “sluggish”. It is slow to open, sometimes remaining blank for about 5-10 seconds before showing the share options. Other times you can see the outline of the share sheet window and then it closes on its own. The more aggravating issue is that the Save to Files option is no longer appearing in the share sheet when I want to save a PDF to Files from Safari.

I have already tried some of the offered solutions in older posts about share sheet issues, like turning off Siri suggestions while sharing, shutting down the device, checking there are no ad blockers or VPNs active, being sure that iCloud is activated for Safari. I have also cleared all history and data in Safari. As there has been no recent OS update I can rule that out. I regularly do app updates so it’s hard to say one of those could be causing a problem.

I’m not seeing this issue on my iPhone running iOS 17.5.1. The share sheet and saving PDFs to Files on that device work as expected.

Anyone have any other ideas? Downloading needed forms on my much smaller iPhone screen is very tedious as well as the workaround of opening Safari and Files in split screen to drag and drop a copy of downloaded files to the desired Files folder.

Updated to iPadOS 17.6 today and the “Save to Files” option has miraculously reappeared in the share sheet. :) For anyone who is still having issues even after the latest update, I did manage to find an easier workaround than what I had been doing. When trying to save a PDF file through the share sheet, I clicked on Options (directly under the file name at the very top of the share sheet) and then under “Save As” chose PDF instead of automatic. That restored Save to Files in the list of options. That was helpful but I’m glad it’s now fixed as it saves the additional step.
