Update older IPad 6th Gen 14.7.1 version
Can I update my older IPad with my MacBook Air with macOS Sonoma version 14.05? If so what are the steps? Thank you

Sonoma only runs on Apple Macs. Apple's iPadOS 17 runs on 6th gen iPads. Connect your iPad to a power source and Wi-Fi signal. Then in Settings > General > Software Update, you should see the ability to update it to iPadOS 17.5.1.
I would also advise you to update your ancient Sonoma release from the reported 14.05 to the current 14.5 via System Settings > General > Software Update. It is very important to keep your software up to date.
