How to dowload messages from an iPhone for court?

Without a third party app, you're limited to screenshots as razmee209 noted. Is there a reason you don't want to use a third-party application? The one I've used, iMazing isn't free but it's less than $50 as I recall. If this is something your firm is likely to need to do again, it may be well worth the price.

Your client can do a bunch of screenshots, if they're not willing to purchase touch copy or imazing that will do that all for them.

Best idea I read yesterday was to use either iMazing, Chatology or CopyTrans. I found that stuff on a site called Appletoolbox

Was just messing around with my copy of iMazing and it would probably be your best bet.
