I can receive & send messages; but I need to go into my contacts and choose the ‘message’ icon there. The message icon used to be at the bottom of my Home Screen and now it’s gone. How can I get it back?

Go to the App Library. It's the page farthest to the right, past the last Home Page. Type "Messages" in to the search bar at the top of the page. Press and hold on the "Messages". After a second, it should move to the Home Screen. It's a little tricky to get the timing right.

See if it is in the App Library. Scroll across your screen depending on how many apps you have and you should eventually see the App Library. Type in Message and see if is there.
