My Mac doesen't have this file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist

So, this starts when my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) received a notification saying the macOS Monterey was available, clicked on it and then the system preferences said that the last version of macOS was installed, so then I went to this website System update notification but no updates… - Apple Community

and tried to delete this file, but then, I searched for it and it was not there.

Any ideas would be useful.

Thank You

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

This has happened before, though rare

Where the Apple Servers misidentify a computer as Qualifying for a newer version of macOS where in Fact it does not

On even more rare instances, some have had the misfortune where it Allowed the newer version of macOS to be downloaded and installed
