Yahoo Redirect Malware in Chrome

This has been addressed before, but the solutions suggeted there don't work.

I have a Mac Mini, on which I use Chrome as my default browser. It has started to redirect me to Yahoo search, and in settings nearly every shortcut irrespective of what it is for has a yahoo logo against it.

I've changed my default browser to Google (it has a yahoo logo next to it now...), have inactivated all shortcuts, but still when I tyoe a search into the menu bar I am taken to Yahoo search. The menu bat itself has a yhoo logo at the left hand side.

How do I fix this? Is there any way to find the maware which has caused this? A complete uninstall and re-installation of Chrome has not helped.

There are no unknown extensions installed.

This is how a new tab currently looks,

And this is the settings page for Chrome.

It sounds like you got a malware PUP affecting Chrome. Try using Malwarebytes to scan your Mac. One of its main functions is to scan & remove browser-related malware. The free download is fully functional.

After you have it cleaned up, I suggest adding these two plugins to Chrome: Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin. They will help block the adware that is usually the source of these PUPs.

But frankly my best advice would be to clean up Chrome, then completely remove it. Use Firefox or Brave instead, with the two plugins I mentioned above.
