How can I fix discrepancy in MacBook Pro Processor identification?

I purchased a 2020 MacBook Pro with an Intel I7 processor and was trying to sell it on the Apple Trade-in program and when I give Apple its serial number it identifies it as a having an I5 processor, but "About this Mac" does show it as an I7. How can this discrepancy be corrected?

Good question...

You can verify from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

system_profiler SPHardwareDataType SPMemoryDataType | perl -ne '

$SerialNumber = $1 if /Serial Number \S+:\s+(\S+)/;

$Processors = $1 if /Processors:\s+(\d+)/;

$Speed = $1 if /Processor Speed:\s+(.*)/;

$Name = $1 if /Processor Name:\s+(.*)/;

$Memory = $1 if /Memory:\s+(\d+\s+\S+)/;

$Phase2 = 1 if /Memory:\s*$/;

$MemSpeed = $1 if $Phase2 && /Speed:\s+(\d+\s+\S+)/;

$Type = $1 if $Phase2 && /Type:\s+(.*)/;

END { printf("%s\n%s x %s %s\n%s %s %s\n",

$SerialNumber,

$Processors, $Speed, $Name,

$Memory, $MemSpeed, $Type);

}

'

note the copy & paste includes that trailing comma at the end there; use the enter\return key to proceed;

the output will be for an ex:

02XXXXXXX6Q

1 x 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

MacBook-Pro ~ %

I redacted the serial number.

if you have the original paper work it should be there to confirm what you paid for and what you got.

If you purchased your device from Apple, you can request a receipt from the retail location.

Check your email for a copy of the receipt. Here’s how to locate the Apple Store and their contact information: Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple

Determining i7 Processor:

Just where does it not shows as an I7 processor?

Look on the original packaging, and see what it says there.
