They found my 2 day OLD iPhone 12 Pro Max 512gB at RALPHS and returned it after I called APPLE/AIG

I paid $1399 back in December 2020 for a brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max with 512gB storage and APPLE (AIG INSURANCE GROUP) Pro Care...I have my CA Drivers license and the RECEIPT..I left the new phone at RALPH'S Grocery Store but after the 1st day looking for it I called it in to report it LOST and lovely AIG completed the "CLAIM" and overnight FED EX'D me a "REMANUFACTURED" iPhone 12 ...then RALPHS called me and RETURNED my precious NEW iPhone....I have spent years trying to get the LOCKED TO OWNER removed to no avail even at my official APPLE STORE with my ID and receipt and original BOX...the latest explanation is that when it tries to ACTIVATE it's communicating with both APPLE and A.I.G.'s SERVERS and IT IS NOT BLACKLISTED IMEI, NOR AN ACTIVATION LOCK...any idea how I can restore the phone for USE as the replacement needs a battery and display soon...Thank you in advance for your ideas

It is stated clearly here:

You can't cancel the claim if a replacement device has shipped. If you find your lost or stolen iPhone after your claim has been approved, you won't be able to use that iPhone again.

File a claim if you have AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage - Apple Support (AL)


Also in that same support article:

When your claim is approved, your lost or stolen iPhone will be permanently disabled and you'll receive a replacement.

There is no reason why you would be able to use the device that was reported as lost and replaced already. If that was the case, then every one would report their phone as lost and just leave it in a drawer in cast the replacement phone breaks. You would no longer need to pay for AppleCare+ Theft & Loss because you already have a replacement phone. I am actually surprised that AIG did not request the phone to be sent to them, but I guess disabling works just as well.

Getting "Locked to Owner" Removed:

If Apple is not willing to help you at the Apple Store, being you've Brough your original proof of purchase, then I'd say give Apple Support a buzz, and see if they can assist you with this. No one here is a tech. Levels represent participation and providence and acceptant of feedback --pretty much reputation --and iPhones seems to be what I participate most in. But, everyone picks on me (and vice's-versa) Anyway... So, is this solved?

once you file a claim, and that claim is completed, the original phone is no longer your property. They made you whole by sending a replacement.


You can’t be mad at AIG for fulfilling what you asked for. Learn a lesson to not so hastily submit a claim until you are certain you are not gonna be able to find your device.
