Change the Region of the Apple Store on my Apple TV in 2024?

We used to have three different user profiles on our Apple TV. A multinational household and frequent travellers, we watch movies from France, Germany and North America on a regular base. We just switch to the corresponding user profile while using the corresponding VPN. This worked beautifully until recently.

With the 2024 updates, first some titles started to disappear from each library, then the corresponding avatars disappeared for some libraries.

Now we are no longer able to change the Apple Store, which is stuck on the one we used most those last weeks.

Any idea how this can be solved. If there is no solution, we have go back with regrets to DVD and Blu-ray (we have a space consuming library of 2000 titles)…

Try force-quitting the TV app, then relaunch it, so that it loads the properties according to that new current account.

You can’t officially have an Apple TV switching regions on demand while staying put. If it worked in the past using VPN tomfoolery, it shouldn’t have. What’s likely happened IMO is that Apple has wisened up to this hole and fixed it. Happy to be proven wrong but not holding breath. Good luck!

Thx Urquhart. Probably I didn’t describe the issue correctly. When I switch from the French account to the Canadian one, the store stays stuck on the French store. How do you switch to the store corresponding to the user account?

When you are a globetrotter and spend much time in different countries, then you will have automatically different country IDs. I don’t see why you should only enjoy them when you are back in those places. I don’t care about commercial strategies, about when producers plan to market their product and on which market. I just want to enjoy what I rightfully bought wherever I was at that point in time.

This is not cheating. If Apple “wises up to this hole and fixes it”, then it will be bye bye Apple!!!

Thanks Urquhart. That did it! Now if you can give a tip how to get movies disappearing from my library back into it ;-) ?

Anyhow, force quitting and and restart too solved my problem.

The country or country-like region for media and purchases is tied to the country for the Apple ID account as currently active on your device. VPNs are generally ignored for Apple services. VPNs could be effective for select third party services, although those may choose to block VPN users at any given time.

It has always been like this, nothing new for 2024 about it.

An Apple ID set to France would access the French region Store for Apple services.

An Apple ID set to Germany would access the German region Store for Apple services.

An Apple ID set to the US would access the US region Store for Apple services.

An Apple ID set to Canada would access the Canadian region Store for Apple services. Third party services may use the IP address and other properties to try to establish a geolocation that may be a requirement for them.
