Cannot drag any file from trash to desktop in Ventura 13.4.

When attempting to retrieve a pdf, jpeg, word doc, etc from the trash to move to the desktop, nothing happens. How do I get a file out of trash?

The usual way of removing a file from the Trash is to right-click the file and select “put back” which restores it to the original folder it was deleted from. But if you can’t drag a file to the Desktop from anywhere then try selecting the Desktop folder, right-click and select Get Info. See if you still have read/write permissions for the Desktop folder.

It said it cannot be "put back" bec it is in the trash.

That is the only place "Put back" shows up.

First drag it out of the trash. I pressed cmd + track pad and was able to move it to the desktop. Never had to press cmd + track pad until tonight. Got the file out of trash and onto the desktop. Thanks everyone!

Did that move the file? Cmd+drag makes a copy.
