Is it worth repairing my 4 year old MacBook Pro that won't boot up or buy a new one?

My 4 year old MacBook Pro won't boot up. Is it worth putting $580 of Apple Repair into it or should I buy a new computer?

I agree with @BobTheFisherman. The Apple USB-C Macs, especially the laptops have a lot of known & some lesser known issues depending on the exact model. Plus you will likely need to replace the Battery in the near future as well which would be another $250 US.

If you need to access online services, then you will also need a Mac which is running one of the three most recent versions of macOS....in a few months that will be Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia. Apple and many third party developers will stop providing updates to their apps for operating systems other than the three most recent ones, so if those apps require access to the Internet, then it is only a matter of time before they will no longer function....some sooner than others (offline only apps are not a problem).

Normally I advocate to keeping devices running for as long as possible especially if the repair cost is below 50% of a new system, but I don't recommend spending any money on the Apple USB-C Intel Macs at this point. The future of Apple laptops are the M-series Macs so I think that money is best spent towards a new one. However, only you can decide which option is best for you.
