Why is my iPhone 13 mini video not compatible for editing?

I used my iPhone 13 mini to take a video. I then opened it on the photos app on my iPad and clicked edit. It says I cannot edit it because the format of the video is not compatible. Every step in this process was done with Apple hardware and software. How can the video not be compatible??

Can't find the "Edit" option for videos on my iPhone 16 Pro Max I took a video of my dog. Why is the video not supported So i transferred photos and videos to my camera to my phone. The pictures are fine. But the videos are not letting me play them. It says this video is not supported.
