I have followed the various Mac Help instructions for syncing my iphone with my Mac but I can't get the iPhone icon to appear in the sidebar other than when I connect the phone and it syncs with Photos. That's fine but I want it to sync with Contacts and other things and nothing in the Mac Help seems to help. Any clues anyone? I'd appreciate any help I can get.

On the Mac verify your Finder Settings>Sidebar>Locations>iOS devices
if you do not see it, spin the caret— move your mouse to the right side to reveal it and click it open
