Macbook Pro Screen gone black

I have a MacBook Pro 2018 15" w/touch bar.

I had put my laptop to sleep or lock screen mode and went to do something. Then I came back opened it up and the keyboard and touch bar lit up, but the screen was completely black. I just hit the power button to turn it off and waited a few seconds before turning it back on and now nothing is showing up on it. On the touch bar the esc key shows up and the caps lock turns green.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 14.4

Troubleshooting a Black Mac Screen:

A. Go Here: If your Mac doesn't Turn On or Start Up - Apple Support

B. Reset the SMC and NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Only Macs): Sometimes changes(i.e. formats) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for Keyboard) become manipulated, technically.  So, reset both on your Mac. Perhaps the keyboard's settings for it keys are mingled. It might take upto three tries to reset both. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

but this time, using an external keyboard.

C. External Monitor:

Connect an external monitor and see if you get an output. Use this post on your 2018 Mac: Belkin Connect USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Adapter - Apple. With he connection, you would mirror the screen in two methods...

  • Without Touchbar: Hold Down [command + F1]
  • With Touchbar: Hold Down: [command + dull screen]
