Spacebar not working for play pause on my FCP version 10.8 on a macbook pro running a Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)
When I press the space bar the video does not stop and I get the yellow square on the frame as the picture shows

Two things:
1) Delete Preferences: To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting the application and click Delete Custom Settings. The application will start with default settings and open an "Untitled" library. Adjust the settings, reopen the library you were working, and see how it works now.
2) In System Settings->Accessibility->Keyboard, make sure that "Full Keyboard Access" is OFF
