When setting up a callback with Apple Support, I am unable to get connected to anyone

For the last two days I have been trying to get Apple Support call backs. I call, they call me back... a recorded message "bla blah Apple Support.." but no one is on the line.. I hear a few clicks.. then 5 min passes and the call hangs up. This has happened for about 10 times.. both with immediate and scheduled call backs from Apple Support. I was able to get help with a Chat.. but my issue about an error notification for my AppleID login wasn't resolved (with my iPhone 14) and the person escalated the problem, but could only offer a scheduled call back.. So now I'm in an endless loop, without being able to get Apple Support on the line.. Anyone got an idea what might be going on? Apple Support call system on the fritz?
