Sorry, I've just realised that the favourites arrow in the side bar was not pointing down, which is why none of the favourites were showing. My excuse for this stupidity is that I'm working with an old and dim monitor and the arrows were almost invisible. Thanks for your help.
Silly question: are you sure the content of Favorites is displayed in the sidebar? Otherwise, try to drag the Downloads folder to the sidebar.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately no success. "Downloads" was already checked, so I unchecked it and checked it again, but that too didn't work. Then I unchecked the box, force quitted the finder and relaunched - but still no joy. Finally I restarted, but again no Downloads folder in the sidebar.😖
Any other suggestions would be very welcome.
Good question actually. None of the "favourites" listed in the finder settings appear in the side bar, but downloads was the only one I really wanted there. I did of course try dragging downloads and one or two of the other favourites into the side bar but they just don't dock, which is how I realised that something was wrong.
