My network settings are preventing content loading privately on my iPhone

Check your setting in Mail, especially Privacy Protection.

"Mail Privacy Protection works by hiding your IP address and loading remote content privately in the background, even when you don't open the message. This makes it harder for senders to follow your Mail activity."

This just started for me as well and I think i found the issue. Apple uses the “iCloud Private Relay” implementation within the mail app to render the contents of a message through an encrypted connection if you have the privacy options on for mail. This is irrespective of whether you have Private Relay on or not.

There is currently an issue with the Private Relay service, and thats why mail won’t work properly.

This isn't an "issue", it's a protection setting that you can turn off if you wish. Just go to Settings -> Mail -> Privacy Protection and toggle off the "Protect Mail Activity" and then toggle off the "Hide IP Address"

I rebooted my router and fixed it. Keeping my security settings enabled.

Settings > mail > privacy > disable and disable more

dont forget to restart the mail app

I rebooted my iphone and images are now displaying in email again.

Either, the reboot resolved the issue for me, or Apple fixed the ?relay? problem at the exact same moment {shrug}.

My Iphone14 has the same issue. The imiages will not load when an email is opened and i get the same "Your network settings prevent content from loading privately". Load Content. I tried turning off the privacy setting to block the ip address and that did nto fix the problem. this only started on July 25, 2024. how is this resolved?

Thank you, AlWeir! I, too, unchecked private email address in my network configuration settings, which did nothing, other than bring up another warning that my mail was now insecure. This prompted me to see if there was a solution on Google.

Your advice has fixed the issue, and content can once again be loaded into my mail.

Not something I would have checked, without prompting, so thank you, once again.

That’s incorrect. While turning off the setting will likely fix the issue, it’s not addressing the root cause. It should be possible to have the option on and not get the error message like it was up until the recent outage on the backend.

There’s nothing any of us can do ourselves. Until Apple reports that they’ve fixed the service issue, anything we do is just a bandaid at the cost of a useful feature. Hopefully they get it sorted soon.

As you say there is an issue with the Private Relay Service and that is why images in email no longer automatically load. My question is will this be resolved and my emails will return to display images automatically?

My “Protection Mail Activity” is toggled off and has been off. It is way too much aggravation to go in to every single solitary email and load content. Apple “should” do something to compensate their customers, but they won’t. Glad I still have a PC to use not to have to be aggravated on my day off by the likes of this problem.

My MacBook gets a day off too.
