Unable to send a WhatsApp message using Siri

Hi all,

I've found the answer in another thread: add the word "mobile" after the name and it works. For me, in Italy, adding "cellulare" does the job.

So, "hey siri, send a new whatsapp message to John Doe mobile" works.

I have the same issue, from my testing - whatsapp version 2.24.15.71 has this issue.

It works fine if I use the previous version 2.24.14.85 (using a different ios device) on a personal whatsapp account or whatsapp business

So - maybe raise the bug with whatsapp :) or wait for a fix.

I am a part and moderator from WABETAINFO on discord app and that is a WhatsApp issue not related with iOS 17.6 , they are working to fix this issue , I am running WhatsApp beta and the issue still hasn’t fixed

it’s obviously a bug that will eventually get fixed. The solution that DOES work for me is to say “hey siri, WhatsApp message [instert name] mobile” and it works just fine. Still hands free. Just how you used to say it but with the word mobile at the end. Good luck

I just updated to 2.24.16.71 and it’s working again without having to use the word mobile. So maybe my bug report worked :)

I have just updated WhatsApp and this issue appears to have been resolved. I am now able to send group messages via Siri and individual messages, again via Siri without needing to add ‘mobile’.

heres What I’ve found - if you ask Siri to send a message to some one , you will notice under their name an option to change to contact type - it’s here you can switch it you WhatsApp , gmail , messenger etc but this does defeat the object of getting Siri to do it 😢

Nice, also works for me - but I can also use a phrase like: "send a WhatsApp message to 'contact name' number". Still feels like a bug :) and more cumbersome to invoke.. so I hope they go back to the previous method.

But this is really annoying because we have to add “mobile” everytime we want to send a message.

Please get it fixed.

Mine does this also , check what update your on - I’m on B3ta 18 and it only started when I updated

Yep, the issue is with WhatsApp and is something that only they can fix. I suppose since they have terrible support and leave their users in the dark, the discussion shows up here on an Apple Support site, but it was never an Apple problem and nothing that Apple could have fixed.

I had the same issue using Siri in my Apple CarPlay but then also on the phone by itself. I just did an WhatsApp app update and it appears to be fixed.

Upgrade to the latest iOS and WhatsApp releases. That fixed the problem for me. I did the upgrade in August 2024.

WhatsApp works fine when just sending a message manually.

Have you shutdown & restarted the iPhone ie power off/on...
