Mail/Google Workspace Accounts
Previously, we have always been able to connect our Google Workspace accounts to Mail via the "Other Mail Account" option and entering the necessary credentials, including an incoming POP server, however
"Starting September 30, 2024, Google Workspace accounts will only allow access to apps using OAuth. Password-based access (with the exception of App Passwords) will no longer be supported. POP and IMAP are NOT going away and can still be enabled with apps that connect using OAuth."
This wouldn't be an issue since connecting accounts directly through Google is available, but Mail is currently configured to only allow the editing of outgoing server settings, and the uneditable, incoming server settings are preset as IMAP.
Unfortunately, since the option to edit incoming server settings is not available when connecting Google accounts, support can't help. Mail and Google are just not currently compatible in this respect. If anyone else is having this issue and would prefer to continue using their Google accounts as POP, please recommend Apple make the editing of incoming mail servers for Google accounts available here: Feedback - Mail - Apple
If anyone else has figured out a work around to be able to have emails remain unread across devices after being read (do-able via POP but not IMAP) or suggestions as to what to do instead, it would be greatly appreciated!
For context, our admin has access to the team's work emails so they can assist when requested, save attachments, have a general idea of what's going on without always having to be copied etc etc but we need the incoming mail to remain as unread on member's personal devices so they don't miss anything they need to reply to.
