MacBook Pro M3 Support for two external monitors

Hey everyone,

is anybody able to connect two external monitors to the M3 MacBook Pro?

I heard in March that after the M3 Air support for 2 monitors apple will be update this function to M3 MacBook Pro as well. However here I am in July macOS Sonoma 14.5 and still only one monitor (with closed hatch) working :(

Does anybody has more information regarding this topic?

Thank you!

What's new in the updates for macOS Sonoma - Apple Support

"macOS Sonoma 14.6

This update adds support for using up to two external displays when the laptop lid is closed on 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 chip and also provides important bug fixes and security updates."

Apple has not announced a date or time frame for when the update will be available. So a MacBook Pro with a base M3 chip remains limited to one external monitor.

Even after the update comes out (assuming that it does), a MacBook Air or Pro with a base M3 chip will not support two external monitors as well as MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips already support them today.

The Technical Specifications for the M3 MacBook Pro have not been updated. They still refer to a limit of a single external display. I assume that in this case, the Sonoma release notes and newer Support documents govern.

There is also an inconsistency regarding the maximum supported refresh rate if you have a single display that you have connected using HDMI.

I suspect that the 144 Hz answer is the "correct" one, given that it's from the most-recently-updated document. Whether you need to be running Sonoma 14.6 (or later) to get the 144 Hz support, I don't know.
