How do I fix chronic issues with sending and receiving texts and calls on iPhone?

I have been having chronic issues with sending and receiving texts and calls. I have a software up to date SE iPhone, which I got because I thought it was a problem with my previous phone. The problems have continued with this phone. I have tried several months ago to solve this thru my carrier, TMobile. They had me get a new SIM card. That has not solved the problem. Are there any updates on this issue?

First go to Settings/Messages and make sure MMS is turned on (SMS is always on, there is no switch except to enable SMS to iPhones, bypassing iMessage when iMessage delivery fails). If you don’t see a switch for MMS your carrier has not provisioned it on your account. If the switch is present and turned on:

  • SMS requires an active cellular voice network service
  • MMS requires that cellular data be turned on. Neither will work over Wi-Fi alone.
  • VPN can block MMS connections, so if you have VPN installed try deleting the VPN profile and app.

If you have checked that MMS is on, cellular data is on, and you do not have VPN (or have removed it), that means SMS/MMS hasn’t been provisioned properly and you need to contact your cellular network provider.
