Ozzie1910 is right, because "Hidden Photos" isn't an album or a folder-- it's a special view. Hidden pictures may each be in lots of different albums scattered all over iPad Photos, and "Hidden Photos" provides a way to see them without having to hunt them down. Pictures can be in multiple albums (which are really just lists of pictures to see together) without taking up any extra space. So, really, there does need to be this single place where you can find them.

You can make a new Folder with new Albums and put all your hidden pictures in those. They will be invisible, until you unhide them, so manipulating them would be tough. But, after unhiding them, you could drag them into these albums. Again, putting pictures into additional albums doesn't take up any extra storage-- in albums, pictures are just names on a list.

I've gotta say, sounds like more work than it's worth.

You can structure your hidden album only on a Mac. Do you have a Mac as well?

On a Mac the hidden photos will be visible in smart albums containing the rule "Photo > is > Hidden". You could create a smart album with the rules

  • Photo is hidden
  • Album is "the name of one of your albums with hidden photos".

Combine these rules with "Match all".

The smart albums will not be visible on your iPad - it will only help on a Mac to manage your hidden photos.

For some Smart Albums on my Mac, I make an equivalently named normal (dumb) album, and I copy the pictures from Smart to dumb. Those pictures in the dumb album do show on the iPad. I have a "Recent 4&5" Smart Album with my favorite favorites, for instance, and it changes as I take pictures. Every so often I copy them to the dumb album so I can see the selection on my iPhone and iPad.
