Mac Sonoma 14.5 unable to save iPhone 15 Pro photos

I have tried with airdrop and with plugged in cord. photos on my iPhone cannot be saved on my Mac. Both are updated fully. I see that I am not alone with this issue.

I tried "most compatible" photos with camera settings. I have tried with "High Efficiency" and neither will be exported to my Mac Photos. It doesn't matter whether I take the photo or the photo was sent to me. It doesn't matter if it's JPG or HEIC. If it's sent from my phone, it will not import into Mac Photos.

This has been a problem for over 8 months. Is there still no fix?

FIXED! Here's what fixed it.

I restarted my computer (nothing)
I shut down the computer and unplugged the external HD
Restarted the computer
Plugged in the external HD after the computer was all loaded up
waited a bit and the HD showed up and the photos were there and able to import my iphone pics again

If you have a SSD with a USB-C and formatted for the Sonoma you can plug it into the iPhone 15 and transfer photos to that device and then move them to the iMac, but AirDrop should work.

Use AirDrop on iPhone to send items to nearby Apple devices - Apple Support (CA)

The photos are already stored on an external hard disk on my Mac. The issue is with the iPhone 15.

the same photos opened on the Mac from an email or text ARE able to be saved in Mac photos. When I try to send/copy/ airdrop them from the phone, they will not save. They cannot be recognized.
