After upgrade to Sonoma 14.6 Touch ID stopped working to unlock by single touch

After upgrade to Sonoma 14.6 Touch ID stopped working to unlock by single touch. My Touch ID stopped working. Removing my existing fingerprints, I am now not able to add any fingerprint at all.

I am still able to unlock by double pressing on my Watch (With latest Watch OS).

Updating to 14.6.1 solved my issue. After update, as I logged in again after restart, it prompted me to enroll in Touch ID automatically (I had deleted the only fingerprint for troubleshooting purposes and couldn’t re-add before), and it now completed successfully! Unlocking computer and password manager both work again.

I have the same issue on my M2 Max MacBook Pro. Hardware diagnostics say no problems found. Safe mode doesn’t fix it. But when I’m prompted to use Touch ID it prompts and never registers my finger touching the TouchID sensor. It has since I bought it well over a year ago. One finger registered, if I delete it I’m prompted to set it up but it won’t register a touch when prompted to register, so I cannot.

Started right after the 14.6 upgrade. Support chat can’t help, they want me to reinstall the OS and I’m not near my Time Machine backup so I cannot update it and reinstall until next week. Can’t unlock apps or the computer or anything else with TouchID. Apple Watch unlock does work still.

For me it's not just Touch ID, but login/logout overall.

If I'm logged in and I lock my screen, the screen saver with the fly-by field is shown. If I then press any key, nothing happens for like 10-15 seconds (but I do here the "blip" sound of a key press when pressing any key) before the login prompt even appears. During this period, the beach ball also appears and disappears a couple of times.

If I then either use Touch ID or enter my password and press enter, it freezes for another ~10 seconds before logging in. Furthermore, even if I enter the wrong password, it freezes for 5+ seconds before any feedback (where the password field "bounces" to indicate wrong password). So it does not seem to be related to the login process as such being slow, but rather the process of showing the login screen AND the process of validating the credentials (be it password or touch ID).

I have to say the official answer here does not satisfy me.
There's a lot of (corporate or private, I don't think it matters) MacBook users that after a MacOS version upgrade experience difficulties, and we're advised to contact our IT departments. Isn't it clear that there's an issue with the upgrade?
