Apple Watch 5 displays only lightning bolt and time

The watch has been on the charger for a week and hasn’t been worn. It displays only to lightning bolt and time briefly and then nothing.

The Watch is not charging, but needs to be charged. Please try a different cable/puck and wall charger. You may also want to also try a different outlet or see if the outlet is possible switched off at the wall. The battery could be at End of Life and need to be replaced. Apple Watch 5 was introduced September of 2019 so in a month or so it’ll be 5 years old, which typically is the EOL for lithium ion batteries. If your Watch is a Series 4 as indicated in your profile, it definitely is time to replace the battery, so you can enjoy another 5 years of usage.
