Insert page break not working in TextEdit

With TextEdit set for rich text formatting, when I do "insert page break" from Edit/Insert in the menu bar it has no effect.

What you don't see in TextEdit is a new page (np) character (e.g. 0x0c) that is inserted. When you save that document as .rtf and then open it in Pages v14.1, the new page break is applied where you inserted it. However, TextEdit, not being a real word processing application does not visually confirm to you that it has inserted that new page indicator.

So when I wanna page break in a TextEdit document TextEdit inserts a page break in a Pages document?

Crazy, counterintuitive, assumption about users’ reasons for inserting a page break in a TextEdit document.

On that assumption, another way to insert a page break in a Pages document would be to insert a page break in a TextEdit document, in case the user actually wanted a page break where he put it.
