Can I consolidate all of my Contacts into iCloud using my MacBook?

when i use the contact mgr on my mac i get stalled by a rolling beach ball slowing down my work flow also periodically lose some cards. curiously doesn't happen on my i[hone or iPad.

Suspect to many accounts onpen can i consolidate all accounts into say iCloud w/o losing anything?

Backup Contacts: Export contacts from all accounts (Contacts app > File > Export).

Sync with iCloud: Go to System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud, and enable Contacts.

Import Contacts: Open Contacts app, go to File > Import, and add your exported files.

Remove Old Accounts: In System Settings > Internet Accounts, uncheck or remove unnecessary accounts.
