How do I skip a track on airpods 3rd gen

Hi

I've been using Airpods 1st Gen for a while. Changing track... double tap the right ear bud.

Pause track.. double tap left. When walking or running (I don't run tho), it's super simple.

I tried this on Airpods 3rd Gen... and it won't work.

Seems you have to do "quite a bit more" to do what you could do with a Tap before. Is that right?

Now, if I want to skip forward, rather than a quick 'tap tap', I have to reach up, feel for the stem, squeeze it to hear the click, and then squeeze it again. I often do it wrong, or don't squeeze enough.

And if I want to pause, again.. rather than a little "tap"... I have to reach up and feel for the stem, and squeeze.

Is that right? Is there no way to swap around the tap (now for phone calls), so the Tap is for tracks, and the squeeze is for Calls.. when you are more likely to be still, sitting.. and thinking "where is that stem" is way easier. And when walking at pace, it's far easier to squeeze that stem and accidentally pull it out and drop it...

Thanks for your help.

Rude.

The point is not what you state.

The point is that since 1st Gen, you could tap or double tap. It was easy. Didn't have to 'grab hold' of this little light weight devices when bouncing from a run or a walk, with the fear of pulling them out and dropping them under feet. It was just a quick "tap tap" and track changes.

Now - you reach up, feel for the step, click... no try again Click... Click.

But they made the Tap for phone calls only.

No one makes phone calls when running or cycling. Most use it for music during those times.

So it makes little sense to make the "super easy" tap that we had for many years... moved to a time when you are pretty much guaranteed to be stationery or moving very slow. And make the "grip it and pinch it" action, when youre riding, moving, bouncing, walking..

The Apple support person agreed.

"Make the simple tap what it always was, for music.".

Try it. Any one who finds the action of feeling for the step, and holding it "just right" to then squeeze it twice and ensure you hear that click..... over a "tap tap"... easier... hhhhmmmm...

Wow yes they told me today. It’s a dangerous new method when you are walking, running or cycling. Tapping was so simple. No effort. Squeezing often leads to pulling them out. And you have to be some particular with it too.

crazy change. But thanks for confirming.

no way did the designer of that method test it when running or cycling.
