Sonoma 14.6 update not working well with Macbook M1 Pro

I have Macbook M1 Pro and I have updated it to Sonoma 14.6. After installing updates, everything is slow. Sometimes keyboard does not work, Finder does not respond. Spotlight feature is also not working. Microsoft applications including MS Teams and MS Office are not working. What should I do now? I updated it last night.

When you hear the loud fan noise, open Activity Monitor. Do you see any processes with high cpu use?

Excess fan noise suggests your processor is running at a higher rate than normal. The update to 14.6.1 might have led to a temporary need for higher background processing rates, as I suggested in an earlier post. Higher cpu use, for whatever background processes, could interfere with other "normal" activities, making your system less unresponsive.

MacOS does a lot of background computing, analyzing your data to create things like the ability to recognize your face and others. There were many "under the hood" changes in 14.6. It may be that the changes mean some of this analysis must be done over again. If so, just leaving your computer on and plugged in to power for a while (days?) might allow these processes to catch up, eliminating your problem.

In Activity Monitor, are any processes running a lot, taking a large fraction of available cpu cycles? If so, that would tend to support this analysis of your issue.

I had this same problem today after updating to Mac Sonoma 14.6.1. For some reason when I went into the Applications folder and clicked on the Microsoft Word icon there (which showed that the last time I'd used it was yesterday although I'd been trying to save things today) and then clicked on the Word documents to open them, even the longest document (78 pp.) opened right away and I've able to use Word without any spinning or freezing or stalling. So far, so good!

Similar issues here, plus Scanner not responding well. I have a MacBook Pro M2 Max.

I needed to restart laptop 4 times to scan 2 pages, combined into single document. After scanning the first page, scanner window just vanished and was impossible to reopen it. Had to restart the computer multiple times to finish scanning. Took me 15 minutes. Last iOS updates, both for Mac and iPhone, are messy and disruptive. What's going on?
