Just to make sure, did you also update your iPhone to iOS 17.6 ?

If yes, did you already try these suggestions?

...

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is connecting properly to its charger
  2. Restart your Apple Watch.
  3. Restart your paired iPhone.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the update won't start:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Storage.
  3. Delete the update file.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

Maybe because iPhone update pending. OK, that's now successfully installed. Back to Apple Watch: Still, when I click Install, I get "To install update, make sure Apple Watch is: On its charger (it is), In range of your iPhone connected to WiFi (it is 2 inches from the iPhone, on its charger and and about 8 feet - direct line of sight - from my new fiber router). Pushing Install, I still get "Installation Paused - To install the update, Apple Watch must be connected to charger (it is) and charged to at least 50% (it is at 100%)." I will leave it in this state and see if it 'unpauses' itself eventually.
