Tidal stops playing with Apple TV

Using Tidal for many years with my Apple TV (4k). My issue is that Tidal will stop playing randomly, most often if I have previously paused playback, then resumed. After toggling the pause button, playback may go for a random period of time before stopping.

I am using the ATV hdmi output connected to a separate D-A converter / preamplifier (Classe Delta Pre). I may turn off the video display after selecting music, then pause it, allow 15 seconds for the hdmi handshake to settle, then toggle the pause button to resume playback. It then plays for an indeterminate time, sometimes the entire album.

ATV is up to date and so is Tidal app. No dropouts or issues when streaming video and believe LAN is robust. Any help would be appreciated.

Try this for any misbehaving app:

  1. Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
  2. If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
  3. If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
  4. If the issue still persists after that, then contact the app developer for further assistance.

I may turn off the video display after selecting music, then pause it, allow 15 seconds for the hdmi handshake to settle, then toggle the pause button to resume playback.

The Apple TV box is intended to have an active screen attached. Check if the Apple TV box didn’t pause itself or turn off itself (status light off) after not detecting an active screen.

Thank you for your reply.

I have completed tasks 1-3 and the problem persists.

For many years I have used the ATV to playback music without this issue but this issues has become more frequent.

I sometimes leave the video display on, but also turn it off as it wastes energy and negatively impacts display longevity. That said, I understand the hdmi handshake which occurs among components so always gives that time to settle before coming out of pause.

The sequence is as follows:

Turn on display;

select ATV input;

select music, begin playback then pause;

turn off display, wait 15 seconds for hdmi connection to settle;

toggle pause, music resumes (if I do nothing else music will play to end of album);

if I pause again and then toggle pause to resume, music frequently stops on its own.

The ATV is set to be "always on" and never enters goes to into sleep mode or turns off.

I have written to Tidal Support to see if they have any experience with the problem but their main concerns and recommendations center on my LAN and connectivity, which is not an issue.
