iOS 17 does not get updates to other versions. It is is iOS 17. And itself may get updates and security patches like 17.6 released 2 days ago.

If you are asking whether the iPhone 11 Pro Max on your device line will get the update to iOS 18 when its released, then, the answer is yes, yes it will.

It will get the update whether its running iOS 17, 16 or 15. The iOS version running on the device has no real bearing on the updates it can get or support.

An iPhone 11 Pro Max will support iOS 18 when released. There's no way to know if there will be an iOS 17.7.

Apple does not tell us what their plans might be.
