There are 2 different locks related to your cellular provider:

  • Carrier Lock - This will lock the device to the carrier and you will not be able to use the device on another carrier until the carrier unlocks the phone. The carrier is the only one that can do this. If you are the account owner with the carrier, they will assist in unlocking the phone as long as you have met all the obligations that were agreed upon when you signed up for service. If you are not the account owner of the cellular provider that it is locked to, then it is very difficult to get them to assist in removing the lock.
  • SIM Lock - Users can set up a SIM Pin on the phone to restrict access to the cellular network until the PIN number is entered. If you do not know the PIN number, then you will need to contact the cellular provider for assistance. If you enter the wrong SIM PIN too many times, then your phone will ask for the PUK Code. This also is only available from the cellular provider. If the wrong PUK Code is entered incorrectly too many times, then you will need to purchase a new SIM card.
