Two photos added to my iMac will not sync with iCloud

I added two files to Photos from my iMac.

Those two photos are not uploading to iCloud nor are they syncing to my other devices.

Images I added from my other devices are syncing up and then down to the iMac.

But the images i added to Photos from my iMac won’t go anywhere.

How do I force those two images to sync?

Have you already identified the two items? Typically, items listed as "On this Mac only" are items that have been imported as referenced files, without copying them into the library. Try to identify them with a smart album as described here and consolidate them: Check the status of your library in Photos for macOS - Apple Support

  1. Select the Referenced album in the sidebar.
  2. Press Command-A to select all items in the album, then choose File > Consolidate.
  3. Select the Referenced album in the sidebar.
  4. Press Command-A to select all items in the album, then choose File > Consolidate.

Well, there must be something wrong with the files, somehow, right? What do they have in common? Are they in some weird format?

Can you Edit them? Can you export them using File>Export>Unmodified Originals? If you can, then you might try re-importing them, and deleting the reluctant parents. If you can't edit or export them, then they may be corrupted beyond repair.

You can also try to File>Export nn Photos. With that, you can specify that you want a jpeg of high quality. You may also be able to open a picture in Preview and export it as a more compatible format.

Let us know what you find...

You're welcome. Great that you could find the problematic photo. 😊

You may want to check the Photos > Settings (or Preferences) General, if "Importing > copy items into the Photos Library" is still enabled, as it should be, if you are using iCloud Photos. If not enable it again. Otherwise more items would be imported as "On this Mac only".
