How to remove apps/items that were installed with old iCloud accounts

Every time I go through a full restore (eg. on upgrading to a new iPhone), I am deluged with requests to sign into iCloud accounts that I either don't recognize or no longer have access to.

I gather this is because that there are apps (or some other data) in the backup that were installed (or somehow reference) these other accounts.

During the restore phase, these popups are so frequent as to make the phone unusable. How can I prevent this from happening? I've seen references to removing the offending apps, but I have no idea how to determine which apps are at fault.

Apple does not make this easy.

If you are deluged, then perform the factory reset and don’t restore a backup, and load what you want or need from the Apple ID you are now using, and from the Apple ID and its iCloud data.
