Can't delete photos from Photos

Trying to clear space from my mac but Photos app isn't allowing me to delete any Photos.

In Photos app on mac, when I select one or many photos from Library (not Album) and right click > delete photo(s). A window pops up and asks, "Are you sure you want to delete the photo?" I select Delete but nothing happens. Window disappears but photo remains. The same thing happens whether it is a recent or old file. Tried all the various ways to delete a photo but same result.

Running macOS Monterey 12.6.9

Photos version 7.

All photos are imported by copying to library and then deleted.

I do not have an iPhone. Phones are not synced to iCloud.

Photo library is partially synced to Google Photos.

This has now resolved itself. Yesterday I imported a bunch of new photos, created some albums etc so presumed everything else was working fine. In trying to test out the 'delete' by importing a brand new photo I realised none of the functionality was work. Import, export, delete, all indicated they had carried out the action but nothing happened. A reboot resolved. If I realised it was wider than just the delete would have got to that solution sooner! Apologies and thanks!

Is your Mac Photos Library synced to iCloud Photos?

Was this happening before you "partially synced to Google Photos?

Not synced to iCloud.

I hadn't noticed but maybe I've just presumed that when I select 'Delete' it was actually doing it. I've now disconnected the Photo Library backup from Google Drive so there is no connection between Google and Photos. I've again tried to delete a photo and it doesn't delete. I've tried this on a photo that was previously backed up to Google and a recent photo added and neither work.
