Photos: can't remove photos from album

I have a an album on Photos containing 109 photos. I want to remove some of these from the album. But when I select a photo, right-click and choose 'remove 1 photo from album', nothing happens. I tried it with two photos with the same result. This is making it difficult for me to work - can anyone else see this, and does anyone know a solution?

By the way, all software is up to date - Sequoia 15.1.1 and Photos 10.0. This is an Intel Mac.

I just tried this, and it worked for me. (By the way, you can just hit "Delete" to remove a picture from an album-- it doesn't go to Recently Deleted or get removed from the Library. The Delete key just removes a picture from the album--you can still see it in other albums and in the Library view.)

This is kinda weird. To narrow things down, try these steps:

  • Restart the computer (of course)
  • Re-start in Safe Mode. This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes, and it often helps. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Those are the easiest things to try first. Then try these:

  • Use another library if you have one, or make a small test Library with a few pictures in it and see if the same thing happens. You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon.
  • Make a new user and see if the same problem recurs with it
  • Rebuild your Photos Library--close Photos and re-launch by option-command-clicking the app icon.

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.

Thanks Richard, lots of helpful suggestions. However, I now think it was some kind of localised glitch. I created another album with many of the same pictures, and tried the deletion and it worked. I then quit Photos, re-launched and things worked in the original album. I don't think therefore there is any detective work that will reveal what happened, even though it was definitely persistent at the time of my report.

If it every happens again, I will try harder to trace it down.

Thanks again.
