17.6 bug: can't get list (or even count) of apps wanting updates

Just updated to 17.6, but now the number that used to appear over the App Store icon has disappeared, and in the App store, I never see that number, let alone the list that the number represents. (I have several apps that got "improved" to death, and I refuse to allow automatic updates because of it.) I've left the phone open for well over an hour at the screen that used to show that info, but the info never comes. Did they move this? Or (shudder) take away this facility?
