My IMessage on macbook keeps making new group conversations

Today, my Macbook started randomly creating a new conversation from a

group chat that I have had for years. But the new version has my number

listed, and any messages I send through it are not received by the rest

of the group. But if I use the old group, I can send messages, but I

can't receive any new messages through the old chat, only the new one

that keeps being created every time I delete it. How do I get this to

stop?

Note: I have already tried completely signing out from my apple account and that has not worked

I was able to solve my problem. I had updated my computer but not my phone. For some reason the way this update happened it made it so that the computer and phone spoke to each other in a weird way. One I updated my phone to match my MacBook the problem stopped.

Thanks for posting-- I thought I was going crazy! It's corrupting my conversation history...

I'm seeing:

  • SMS conversations with Android devices (like Samsung) generate a new 'conversation' thread, instead of appending to existing threads with the same "to" list.
  • I'm seeing my own phone number/profile in the "to" field, not merely the person who texted me.
    • Like, if Micky Mouse texts me, the "to" field shows both Mickey's and my phone number, which is probably why it's seeing messages with Android users as a new conversation.
  • I don't believe this happens with iPhone-to-iPhone, only when you SMS with someone on Android (like Samsung, etc.)
