How to completely deactivate it so people can't iMessage me?

To deactivate iMessage for both your phone number and email address, visit Apple's Deregistration Page and enter your phone number. Remove your email address from iMessage by visiting your Apple ID Account Page, managing your account, and checking email settings. If you can't remove your email address, contact Apple Support. If you still receive iMessages, set up a temporary iOS device and remove the email address through the device's iMessage settings.

I have deactivated my phone number through the available link, from receiving imessages. However it appears my email must still be linked as people are still messaging me and it goes through as an iMessage (that I can't receive).

Do you have any other Apple devices that are still connected to that Apple ID?
