How to recover deleted word document on mac?

Hi,

I'm facing an urgent issue and need some help with recovering a deleted Word document on my Mac. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted a crucial document and emptied the Trash before realizing my mistake. I'm not sure how to proceed from here to recover the file. Can anyone guide me on the best methods or software available to recover deleted Word documents on Mac? I tried a few free data recovery apps but they are unable to find the deleted word file.

P.S. if there are any built-in macOS features or methods that could help with document recovery, I would greatly appreciate any advice or step-by-step instructions.

If you accidentally delete a Word document on your Mac, you can recover it by checking Time Machine backups, checking iCloud Drive, using macOS built-in recovery features, using data recovery software, or consulting a professional data recovery service. If these methods don't work, consider using a professional data recovery service. Regular backups and using cloud storage can also help prevent future data loss. To ensure a successful recovery, follow these steps: check Time Machine backups, look in iCloud Drive and the Recently Deleted folder, explore macOS built-in recovery features, use reliable data recovery software, and implement regular backup practices.

If you've accidentally deleted a Word document on your Mac and it was saved using Office 365, you have an option to recover it using the Office 365 Web interface.

Firstly, open a web browser and log in to your Office 365 account. Navigate to the OneDrive section where your documents are stored. In OneDrive, deleted files are initially moved to the Recycle Bin or the "Deleted Items" folder. Click on this folder to see if your deleted Word document is still there. If you find it, right-click on the document and select "Restore" to return it to its original location within OneDrive. This method is effective for recovering deleted word file on any mac as long as the document was stored on OneDrive and not exclusively on your Mac’s local storage.

If you have a Time Machine backup or any other sort of backup it is easily recoverable. If you do not, then you have learned a very painful lesson that you need to have backups.

Also, with SSD drives, trying to recover data is a doubtful pursuit trying to recover. Unlike the old HDDs, you cannot simply just overwrite an area of the drive. This can give HDD some reasonable ability to recover data because those areas may not have been overwritten yet. However, with an SSD the areas need to be erased before they can be written to which is a relatively slow process. So, the firmware in the SSD itself (with help from the OS) determine that areas where files have been deleted and in the background those areas will be erased. The reason it is done is so that the very high speeds can be maintained.

So, the likely hood of recovering anything is slim to none.

Often, when you delete a file on a Mac, it goes to the Trash first. You can open the Trash by clicking on its icon in the Dock, then locate the deleted Word document and drag it back to your desktop or another location. This is the first place you should check in order to recover deleted word document on Mac. A lot of users forget to do this as far as I know!
