Why can I not delete the offensive artwork from the U2 album Songs Of Innocence? This is on an older iMac (late 2013 running macOS Catalina 10.15.7) I still occasionally use for music storage (Music 1.0.6.10). If I make any changes to the library on that iMac that ugly and offensive artwork shows up again.

This is not true. While you could delete it back then, it has no longer been an option for a user to delete it for a very long time. The OP will need to contact Apple directly to have it removed from their account.

When you are signed into your Apple ID in Apple Music, the library will include not only locally stored items, but also any unhidden purchase history that may show as cloud links allowing it to be streamed. As noted elsewhere while you might not have purchased said album you were likely gifted it back in 2014. Hiding the album from your purchase history (relatively easy) or requesting Apple Support to delete it from your account (a little more effort) should resolve the issue for you.

To remove or change artwork for U2's "Songs of Innocence" in iTunes or the Music app, follow these steps: open iTunes or the Music app, find the album, get info on the album, edit artwork, remove or change it, save changes, and rebuild the library if needed. If the artwork persists, check for syncing, delete and re-import, check for old copies, update software, or contact Apple Support for further assistance.
